SIX schools in the Wedmore area have been given a prestigious sports honour.
Hugh Sexey Middle School and primary schools in Mark, Wedmore, Weare, Lympsham and East Brent have all received Sportsmark awards.
The attribute is given to schools that can demonstrate they offer at least two hours of high quality physical education lessons each week. Sportsmark schools also have to offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities such as after school sports clubs.
School sports coordinator Robin Evans said: "The awards reflect the dedication and hard work of all the teachers and volunteers who contribute so willingly to sporting provision in the schools. The initiative has given primary sport a huge boost."
This week Hugh Sexey Middle School in Blackford hosted the third annual netball tournament and teams from the Cheddar Valley schools competed for a silver cup. The winners, East Brent First School, are pictured with their trophy.
