DRASTIC action is being taken to stop sewage flooding homes in Locking. The village's sewer network is unable to cope during heavy rainfall which has resulted in effluent spilling out of manholes.Sewage has flooded into a number of properties when rain has been particularly heavy. On Monday, Wessex Water started work on installing a new sewage pumping station and another sewer under Cross Rhyne and alongside Laneys Drove. The work is due to finish at the end of March. The new pumping station will be constructed in the Oaktree Park caravan park, which means a number of parking spaces will be lost while work takes place. To minimise disruption, one lane will be kept open in Laneys Drove while the new pipeline is laid along the verge.Project engineer Steve Lanzon said: "Removing the risk of sewer flooding is one of our top priorities and this scheme will improve the service we provide to customers in Locking. When completed it will increase the ability of our sewers to cope with heavy rain and reduce the risk of flooding.
