AXBRIDGE Town Council is considering drawing up a design statement to prevent further unwanted developments from springing up.Mayor Mike Taylor said the statement would give the council more of a say on planning matters. He said: "It would hopefully prevent developments like the one in Moorland Street from happening again because we can always say it isn't in accordance with our design statement."Design statements are drawn up to give parishes more of a say on planning matters and what developments are built. The project would involve asking the views of everyone in the town on how they would like to see Axbridge develop in the future. But Councillor Dennis Bratt objected to the proposal because he said members already had enough work to do.Cllr Jennifer Trotman said: "We have little control over planning as it is and I think this would be a valuable exercise. If we don't have enough time we could devote more to the design statement because it's important."Councillors agreed to investigate how the work would be carried out before making a decision on whether to go ahead with the project.
