Town drunk jailed - days after ASBO

A NUISANCE town centre drunk has been jailed – just days after being given an antisocial behaviour order (ASBO).
Adrian Gillard, of Weston, is well-known to officers as his troublesome behaviour has been reported to police more than 30 times over the years.
After making Gillard the first person in Weston to be banned from buying alcohol in any of the town’s pubs and off-licences, police took their powers one step further earlier in June and sought an ASBO.
When this failed to halt the problem, police instead asked the courts for an ASBO to stop him from drinking alcohol in any public place in North Somerset. It also banned him from entering the town centre, unless attending the doctors or the hospital.
However, just days after being slapped with the order, the Milton Road resident was found drunk in Weston’s Italian Gardens.
He appeared at North Somerset Courthouse in St Georges on June 20 and was sentenced to 98 days in prison.
He pleaded guilty to breaking the order and magistrates felt a stretch in jail was the only appropriate option as he had broken his ASBO so soon after receiving it.
