TOYS have been flooding in from across North Somerset from kind-hearted residents in response to last week's launch of the Weston & Somerset Mercury's Toy Appeal with Star Radio.

The campaign asks people to buy one extra present when out shopping so less fortunate children and their families will have something under the Christmas tree.

Families who benefited from last year's appeal wrote anonymously into Star Radio thanking staff for making theirs a happy Christmas.

One said: "Thank you so much for your help and generosity. My son received a beautiful toy which was also educational, he enjoys it a lot. Thanks again and keep up the good work."

Elaine Blackmore, a community families' worker who will be distributing presents, is reminding people again this week to think of older children up to 16 who will really appreciate gifts such as CDs and DVDs.

Car dealership SJ Cook and Sons in Weston is also supporting the appeal.

Gifts can be donated at the Weston & Somerset Mercury offices in Waterloo Street or Star Radio's offices in Beaconsfield Road.

Other collection points throughout North Somerset include Church House in Silver Street, Nailsea, Bradshaw House off Kenn Road next to Tesco in Clevedon and the Hand Stadium in Davis Lane, also in Clevedon. Shoppers in Portishead can drop their gifts into Waitrose in Harbour Road.
