A TRACTOR has caught fire near Hillcote on the southern entrance to Weston, blocking traffic in both directions.

The tractor was travelling on Bleadon Hill Road when it caught fire, with Avon Fire and Rescue saying an ‘accidental ignition’ was the cause of the blaze.

One engine from Weston responded to a phone call shortly before 1pm and is still at the scene of the incident.

An onlooker said there were plumes of black smoke coming from the vehicle, and that the driver had tried to put the fire out with water before it became uncontrollable.
