A lorry transporting hay has caught fire on the M5 this evening (Wednesday).

Traffic is at a standstill on the M5 southbound between junction 20 (Clevedon) and junction 21 (Weston-super-Mare) after the vehicle caught fire on the motorway shortly after 6pm.

Delays of up to an hour are expected and avon fire and rescue service, Avon and Somerset Constabulary and Highways England are working to ‘resolve the issue.’

Highways England is advising people to ‘take care’ when approaching the oncoming traffic caused by the incident, which is not expected to be resolved until later on this evening.
