THE frequency of a bus service around Weston is to be cut because traffic was stopping it from being reliable enough.

The number 83 service will no longer run hourly, but every 90 minutes instead. The change came into force on Thursday..

An inability to keep to the timetable has been the main reason for the change, according to North Somerset Council.

The number 83 bus goes from Bleadon to Worlebury, through Uphill and Weston. The route will not be altered as part of the changes.

Paul Baker, North Somerset Council’s public transport manager, said service operator Crosville was struggling because of traffic in Weston.

He added: “This new timetable will allow the operator to serve Worlebury and Bleadon with a more reliable timetable.

“The current times are very tight and this change means greater flexibility for drivers to complete the full route during times of heavy traffic in Weston town centre.”

The decision has been made following discussions between passengers and councillors.
