Traffic is beginning to build on the M5.

Several miles of stationary traffic have built up on the M5 this afternoon (Friday).

Slow traffic is being reported southbound from as far north as Thornbury (junction 14), with queues continuing past Bristol and only easing once drivers have passed Clevedon (junction 20).

Delays then continue between Weston-super-Mare (junction 21) and Bridgwater (junction 23).

The northbound carriageway is not quite as congested, but motorists can expect delays between Weston-super-Mare and Portishead (junction 19) and again the other side of the Avonmouth Bridge.

With the school holidays now in full swing, it is expected that hundreds of extra drivers will be using the M5 over the weekend.
