SPORTING youngsters signing up to take part in the North Somerset World Cup will be able to benefit from special training from celebrity and professional coaches.Bosses at the Hand Stadium, at Davies Lane, Clevedon, have agreed to host a special training day at the complex on May 20.All youngsters signing up to take part in the North Somerset World Cup - being held at Portishead Lake Grounds on May 31- will be able to take part in the free training session.Players and coaches from Clevedon Town and Bristol Rovers will be on hand at the stadium for the two-hour session.Owner of the Hand Stadium, Barry Bradshaw said: "We are delighted to support the North Somerset World Cup."We are always keen to support events which encourage young people to get involved with sport."This will give the youngsters a chance to be put through their paces by some of the best coaches in the district ready for the big tournament."The tournament, which is open to youngsters aged between 13 and 16, will see up to 32 teams battle it out for the top trophy being sponsored by the North Somerset Times and Weston and Somerset Mercury.Each group will be given the identity of a country competing in the World Cup and asked to come along to the play off in fancy dress from their adopted team.A number of teams have already signed up, but North Somerset Youth Service, which is organising the tournament, says more players are needed.North Somerset Youth Service spokesman Alan Rowe said: "So far we have had a number of teams come forward, but we still want more."It will be a fantastic day with plenty more on offer apart from the football, with other sporting activities available at the Lake Grounds."Each team, which has to have a minimum of two girl and two boy players, will be given a country playing in the World Cup to represent on the pitch.Teams must be of six people, with up to 10 players so substitutions can be made. Referees and linesmen are also needed to help with the tournament.Anyone who wants to register a team needs to contact Alan Rowe at Portishead Youth Centre on 01275 842461. Once registered, each team will be given details of the coaching session at the Hand Stadium.
