A TEMPORARY transit site for travellers could be set up in North Somerset so they can be moved on from public land quicker. There is not a site for travellers in the district and council-owned fields on Weston's estates and Wraxall have been plagued by dozens of caravans this summer.North Somerset Council's housing officials say their hands are tied as magistrates are reluctant to move travellers on without a transit site.Council officers were unable to prevent travellers who broke into the changing rooms in Drove Road last month from using the showers and electricity because they claimed it broke their human rights.A transit site would provide water and electricity, but allow the council to charge for these services.John Crockford-Hawley, North Somerset Council's executive member for strategic planning and transport, said he would look at the situation. He said: "The current arrangements are insufficient in that travellers move onto public land and it takes some time to process to move them off."Whenever there's a threat of potential antisocial behaviour people are hesitant to have them in their immediate neighbourhood.
