FRIENDS of a 16-year-old transplant patient, who has been chosen to represent Great Britain in the World Transplant Games, raised £1,200 to help get her to the competition.
Ellen Russ, of Oxford Square in Locking, has been selected to represent Team GB in Argentina this year.
Ellen, who got a new kidney in December 2012, competed in the 2014 British Transplant Games in Bolton and won a silver and bronze medal in swimming events. In order to compete this year, she had to raise £4,000 for herself and a parent to travel.
On December 20, she held a cake and craft fair at Banwell Village Hall and at the end of the event Ellen got a surprise from friends Mandy and Dave Evans, who presented her with a cheque for £1,200.
They had raised this money by doing a 12-mile sponsored walk along the Strawberry Line with their Jack Russell Lily. Dave works at Smurfit Kappa in Weston and staff across all of the shifts donated money to support the fundraising.
This money means Ellen has now reached her fundraising target.
