Traveller site could double

A GYPSY and traveller site may more than double in size if it is granted planning permission.

Mrs P Roper has applied to Sedgemoor District Council for planning permission to add five mobile homes, five touring caravan sites and five communal living facilities on land at Yeo Bridge Farm in Turnpike Road, Cross.

The farm currently has six sites, three for static caravans and three for touring caravans.

Rustan Planning, acting as agent for the application, said there was an outstanding need for 14 gypsy and traveller spaces in Sedgemoor between 2010 and 2015.

The agent said: “At present there is no five-year supply of deliverable gypsy and traveller sites.

“There is a demonstrably clear and pressing need for new gypsy and traveller sites in the Sedgemoor district.”

Compton Bishop Parish Council objected to the plans, on the grounds there was no evidence to show the site was needed, adding that it would not be reasonable for small communities to host the additional sites.
