Commuters will be rewarded for using forms of public transport in North Somerset under a temporary initiative.

The Travelwest Challenge launched last Monday encourages people to use public transport, walk, cycle or car-share when travelling to work.

The free scheme invites people to track their daily commute through the Betterpoints app, which gives users the chance to earn rewards.

Bettertickets, collected when travelling to and from work, are then entered into a weekly prize draw to win BetterPoints – which can be exchanged for high street vouchers or donated to charity.

Travelwest is giving away £7,000 worth of prizes, including £600 in cycling accessories and £1,000 worth of Love2Shop vouchers.

The challenge runs until July 22.

To take part, download the Betterpoints app from Apple’s App Store or from the Google Play Store.
