VOLUNTEERS armed with spades and wellies will be planting trees in Wedmore for a community woodland.

Members of Wedmore Green Group, friends and other volunteers, will be gathering in the new car park in Cheddar Road ready to walk to the site along the footpath to the Latcham area, on the outskirts of the village.

The quarter acre of land was generously given by an anonymous donor but the site now needs planting after clearing took place last week.

Member Rob Richley said: "We were thrilled when we heard of the generous offer. Now we need plenty of volunteers to help with planting. We will also use another weekend in December to plant trees.

"There are few places in Wedmore where people can go for a picnic, relax with friends and enjoy the countryside.

"Bring a spade and plant a tree, it will be lots of fun."

Once the woodland is complete, it can be used by walkers, bird watchers or families. Wedmore Green Group is hoping to keep the facility environmentally-friendly and will be encouraging people to avoid using their cars to get there.

Anyone who would like to help can go along to the site on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4pm. For more details call Rob on 01934 713802.
