Archant

Fans of Time Team's beloved fuzzy-haired archaeologist Mick Aston are still campaigning for a TV tribute, a year on from his death.

More than 5,600 people have signed an online petition to resurrect the show in its original format for a one-off special in his memory.

Campaigners hope to reach 10,000 signatures before presenting it to Channel 4.

Mr Aston died suddenly on June 24 last year at his home on Hill Road in Sandford, aged 66.

Fellow Time Team member and close friend Tony Robinson gave his support to one last dig, if it could be returned to its original format. Other stars of the show have also backed the petition, including Helen Geake, Matthew Williams and Francis Pryor.
