AN ELDERLY man had hundreds of pounds stolen from his house in broad daylight. The 85-year-old, who lives close to the town centre, answered his front door at about 10am on Monday to a man posing as a water board official. The homeowner let him in and showed the bogus official his stop tap. The thief then said he needed to check the water pressure. He returned to the front door, after saying he thought he had left it open, and let two other men into the house. The two then went upstairs and broke into locked wardrobes where the money was kept. The three men ran off with £700 after the victim realised something was wrong. The victim's nephew, Danny Maher, from Burnham, said: "The whole thing really shook him up. He lives on his own and is nervous at the best of times. He doesn't want to be identified because he is worried the burglars might return."The 54-year-old added: "I hope by raising the issue I can make people in Weston more aware that this sort of thing is going on.
