A Tropicana manager is being hired to turn Weston-super-Mare's seafront venue into an iconic arts and events space.

What next for the Tropicana? What next for the Tropicana?

The new post – titled Tropicana development manager and creative producer – will need to develop a business plan to make sure the site in Marine Parade is financially viable.

Work to rebrand the Trop began in earnest after Banksy’s Dismaland exhibition last August.

Since then, it has hosted music events, including rock legends 10cc, and is currently being used as a fairground called Funland.

North Somerset Council commissioned designer Wayne Hemmingway’s firm HemingwayDesign to front the Trop’s revival earlier this year.

Any costs associated with the project will need to be approved by the Tropicana Futures Group, led by HemingwayDesign, and the council.

The job description says: “The Tropicana development manager will be the key person responsible for developing the Tropicana into an iconic arts and event space which will contribute to the wider programme of regeneration which is currently underway in Weston.

“The postholder will have considerable experience in a similar role with a proven success record in events management and facilities business planning.”

The chosen applicant will be paid £29,854 pro rata, based on an 18.5-hour week on an 18-month contract.
