Plans to create a cycle hire shop at the Tropicana have been submitted.

North Somerset Council wants to transform part of the unused changing rooms at the Marine Parade venue into a cycle hire facility.

The design would also include creating a shop front to match the changes made to The Bay Café and visitor information centre at the opposite end of the building.

The project’s completion is subject to a Government funding bid which the council should find out the outcome of in January.

The plans are linked with a £1.254million grant received from the Department for Transport last year to improve facilities for pedestrians and cyclists along the seafront.

A council spokesman said: “It is subject to that bid and being successful.

“It is also tied in with the opening of Brean Down Way last year for which we have funding to extend cycle facilities from Uphill to the seafront.”
