TWO developers bidding to regenerate Weston's Tropicana are continuing discussions with owners North Somerset Council.

Town businessman Richard Nightingale and Wiltshire-based firm Havard Tisdale are competing in a tendering process to rebuild and run the closed attraction.

In the next stage of the procedure, both parties this week submitted activity plans, laying out how they hope to progress their proposals.

The Mercury understands Havard Tisdale has a scheme lined up for the site, while Mr Nightingale is still to pick from four he unveiled to the public.

Mr Nightingale also pledged a £1million guarantee to rebuild the attraction if he was picked, although he has recently expressed doubts over the scheme’s viability if the planned redevelopment of Dolphin Square goes ahead first.

A North Somerset Council spokesman said: “The activity plans will be considered this week with meetings held with both parties later this month.”
