TV station for town

WESTON could soon have its very own television channel - and become a pioneer in community broadcasting.
The idea is the brainchild of Weston resident Richard Browne, who owns outside broadcast company Eventcastmedia.
He wants to set up Weston Super TV, a station for the community which would broadcast a range of programmes dedicated to town audiences online.
Richard, aged 42, is in talks with The Blakehay theatre to house his media equipment in an upstairs studio and transform it into a media hub.
The station could be up-and-running as early as Easter, and Richard is appealing for people who are interested in TV, editing and filming, to come forward and showcase their talents.
Dad-of-three Richard has years of experience in broadcasting, including working for Sky in Spain where he helped to set up a TV channel for ex-pats.
He told the Mercury: “This hasn’t really been done before. It’s a new concept.
“In some ways it will only work as far as the public want it to work.
“I think TV in itself has a big appeal and when it becomes local and has interesting features to you it becomes even more appealing.”
Richard, of St Joseph’s Road, is aiming to create five hours of original programming each week when the channel goes live.
He added: “I would like to film a question and answer session with councillors, interview local businesspeople such as Richard Nightingale and Kerry Michael.
“Another idea is a talk show with young mums and team up with Weston-super-Mum.
“Weston has so many events such as the carnival, beach race, Helidays and dance festival which we would take cameras out to and stream live.”
Richard would also like to stream Weston Football Club and Hornets RFC matches online as well as concerts in The Blakehay.
He is looking into applying for grants, which would fund equipment for community correspondents who could submit reports from the comfort of their own home.
Richard will also be inviting local businesses to advertise on the station and syndicate the channel to other Weston websites.
