TWO people were arrested and five cautioned in a 'zero tolerance' drugs operation by police in Weston's town centre at the weekend.

The town centre policing team took the action after searching 35 people in five different venues during the operation last Saturday night.

In partnership with North Somerset Council’s licensing team, they used specialist drug dogs to identify those suspected to be holding illegal substances.

Sergeant Mark Raby said: “During the evening we came into contact with hundreds of members of the public who were very supportive of our work.

“We want to encourage people to come into the town, enjoy the nightlife and most importantly feel safe in doing so.

“We are determined to continue with our zero tolerance approach to drugs in the town and anyone using drugs can expect to be dealt with robustly.”
