A North Somerset cheerleader says she is experiencing a 'dream come true' after becoming the only British woman to cheer in the NFL for one of the best American football teams in the world.
Holly Warden, aged 25, will cheer on the Miami Dolphins next season as part of the team’s world-renowned cheerleading squad.
Holly, of Congresbury, travelled around the world and studied in London, Mexico and Brazil before being scouted by the Dolphins.
She has previously taken part in high-profile shoots for shows and singers and films, including the James Bond epic Spectre.
She told the Mercury cheering in the NFL had been her dream since school as she had first been inspired to take up cheerleading after watching the film Bring It On as a child.
Holly said: “It’s a huge honour, it’s unbelievable. I still can’t believe it.
“This is a dream come true for me and I am especially proud to be the only British NFL cheerleader.
“I have dreamed about this since school.
“Bring It On was my favourite film when I was younger but I didn’t think it was possible to get into NFL cheerleading. I was in the right place at the right time in Mexico.”
Holly said her team was able to overcome the traditional cheerleader stereotype of short skirts and make-up by engaging in events within the wider community.
She said: “We are more than just cheerleaders, we are truly ambassadors of the Miami Dolphins.
“Not only do we cheer at the games, we are also active in our community, visiting schools and hospitals, and bringing spirit to our military troops abroad.”
“Hard work and dedication is the key to fulfilling your dreams.”
