Uphill’s beacon has been given a face-lift ready to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One.
The beacon on top of Uphill Tower has shone out over the village and across Weston Bay every new year’s eve since the millennium.
It is recognised as a national beacon and has been lit to celebrate a number of occasions including the Queen’s jubilees and the anniversary of the battle of Trafalgar and VE Day.
The beacon will burn again on November 11 and to prepare it for the occasion, its original iron basket has been replaced by a stainless steel version which is set to last for many years.
Changes to the beacon were funded by Uphill Village Society.
Society chairman Stewart Castle said: “It has marked and will continue to mark many national occasions and is just another example of the important work the society does in keeping the village in Uphill.”
