Care workers are in desperate need of masks, disposable gloves, aprons and hand sanitiser to protect them from coronavirus.
North Somerset Council is making an urgent plea for personal protective equipment (PPE) as care workers across the area are forced to work without it due to supplies drying up.
The current coronavirus pandemic has led to PPE being in short supply across the country and a national effort is under way to bring in new stocks, but these are not expected to reach the South West until April 6.
The council is calling for any local schools, colleges or other businesses who might have much-needed items to help out and bridge the gap.
Cllr Mike Bell, the council’s deputy leader and executive member for adult social care said: “Our care homes and community care workers are desperate. We need basic items such as masks, disposable gloves, aprons and hand sanitiser. Please, if you have them stored away, and don’t have an immediate care-related need, get in touch. You will help save lives.”
