AN URGENT warning has been given to villagers in North Somerset who are venturing on to the frozen lake.

AN URGENT warning has been given to villagers in North Somerset who are venturing on to a frozen lake.

Bristol Water is forewarning people not to step on to the ice at Blagdon reservoir.

Youngsters have recently been seen on the ice and there is concern that, with schools closed, there may be more incidents.

Company spokesman Jeremy Williams said: "They are putting their lives at risk.

"The reservoirs may look fascinating in this sort of weather, but walking or skating on the ice is highly dangerous.

"There is no knowing how thick or thin the ice may be and it could give way at any moment, plunging people into deep, icy water."

Mr Williams said that access to the water's edge is not permitted in any case, for safety and security reasons.
