LONG-awaited BMX dirt ramps for youngsters in Axbridge have been vandalised, just a few weeks after being set up.Teenagers had been appealing for dirt ramps on which to practice their BMX skills for more than 10 years. Their efforts fell on deaf ears because of insurance problems. But thanks to the efforts of police community support officer Julie Lewis, an insurance deal was struck and the ramps were built at the bottom of The Furlong playing fields earlier this month. Now, after finally being given the ramps, yobs have cleared the dirt off the top of them, exposing the stones underneath. Some of the stones have been placed around The Furlong and others in the neighbouring farmer's field. Companies and residents volunteered to help create the ramps free of charge. Speaking at a town council meeting this week, Councillor Edith Channon said: "They have been asking for these ramps for as long as I can remember. They now have them but now they are doing this to them. I hope it's just a minority."Mayor Barry Hamblin said: "The youth leader is trying to find out what the situation is and hopefully it will soon be resolved.
