It is said that variety is the spice of life and by switching things around and being able to try and enjoy new and exciting experiences makes life a lot more interesting.

So when it comes to health, fitness and well-being, the boss at the South West’s leading independent health club is encouraging anyone who is looking to up the ante in terms of getting a bit fitter and perhaps to shed a few pounds to make sure they include a mix of different types of exercise in their routine.

Jason Eaton, general manager at the club and spa at Cadbury House in Congresbury said: “No one likes doing the same thing over and over again and it’s important to stay motivated, particularly with regard to exercise and varying any exercise routine helps you stay physically challenged.

“If possible, when planning a routine, try and include exercise that helps with endurance, balance, strength and flexibility. All have different benefits and intertwine with each other and help minimise injury as well. Combining aerobic and strength exercises for example is a great way to maintain your target weight.

“Or if for example you’re out for a walk or gentle run, why not include some short sprints between two lamp posts or add in a hill.

“When we put in place a plan for a new member, we always try and include as much variety as possible. The member then gets the most out of their workouts, makes it more enjoyable and helps them achieve their goals. It’s also been proven that by rotating exercises or activity, your risk of injury decreases.

“We’re also lucky to have a very extensive range of facilities here at the club and allows us to create fun and varied workouts.

“But whether you’re a member of a health club or not, making sure you include a variety is key to achieving your goals and having a bit of fun at the same time.”
