A BEACON may be lit at Uphill to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory In Europe (VE) Day.

The Government has arranged for beacons to be lit across the country to mark the occasion and Uphill could be one of more than a 100 to be lit in a chain across the UK.

VE Day marks the day the Nazis surrendered World War Two.

The Uphill Village Society will vote on whether to proceed with the idea at its meeting on Thursday.

If it does go ahead, the event will be held on May 8, and the time will depend on where Uphill fits into the order set by the Government.

The beacon at Uphill has been lit in the past for the Jubilee in 2012 and other national events.
