A TALENTED Portishead teenager may have to pass up the opportunity of a lifetime to study at a prestigious American film school - unless she can raise thousands of pounds to pay for her fees.Gordano School student Victoria Curtain is one of only two teenagers across the UK to be offered a place at the coveted School of Film and Television in New York.More than 30,000 people from across the globe applied for just 118 places at the illustrious school, which has produced stars including Hollywood actress Julie Roberts and Lost actor Matt Fox.The talented teen, who is a member of Portishead Players, was offered a place on the spot at the auditions in London by the school's assistant director and actor Alberto Bonilla. But unless Victoria can raise the £35,000 needed to pay her fees and accommodation costs, her dream may die and she is now appealing to local businesses and people in Portishead to support her. Her family have spent the past weeks letter writing, applying for grants and trying to secure sponsorship to make Victoria's dream become a reality.Victoria, who is currently doing her A levels, said: "My whole family has been fanatically trying to raise the money but have had no luck whatsoever. I have to confirm my place and pay the first instalment of fees by the end of July."There is no way on earth my parents can find this money alone.""I really think that this is my chance and I would be totally gutted if I couldn't go."Victoria, aged 18, of Slade Road, dreamed of being an actor from an early age and as well as being a member of the Bristol Old Vic Youth Theatre has appeared in numerous community plays and school productions. The school, situated just off Broadway, came to Victoria's attention via a website called www.starnow.comVictoria added: "I decided the night before that it was my last audition and if I didn't get it I would look to go down another career route."I was so surprised and shocked to be offered a place on the spot."Victoria's sister Eleanor said: "Victoria really is a talented actress and I hope that local businesses will get behind her and support some true Portishead talent."The course, which would run for two years with a third optional year, would include talks from famous actors and actress.Anyone wanting to support Victoria to realise her dream can contact her on 01275 849103.
