A WELL-TIMED drugs raid in Weston has uncovered £1,000 worth of cannabis leaves only weeks before they were to be sold.

Two police units forced entry into the garage of a house in Milton Road at 9.30am this morning (Wed).

Inside, the south ward team officers found hundreds of drying cannabis leaves as well as 24 plants and growing kit.

It is believed the cycle operation may have been running from the property for a considerable time.

Sergeant Shane Hawkings told the Mercury from the scene: "It would appear we have timed this raid just right.

"There are quite a lot of cannabis leaves which have been drying for about a week and would have been ready to sell on very soon.

"There were also some growing plants and some hi-tech kit.

"This raid is an example of how the south ward team is committed to tackling drugs, which is a PACT priority set for us."

Two men, who live at the house, were arrested and have been taken into custody for questioning.
