Prince Edward, who is the Queen’s cousin, arrived at the lifesaving charity’s temporary station near Marine Lake at around 12.30pm.

He was introduced to retiring lifeboat operations manager Pete Holder and his replacement Charlotte Conroy as well as other Weston dignitaries.

He was accompanied by Lady Gass, the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset.

He was shown into the temporary lifeboat station where he was able to view pictures of Birnbeck Pier.
