A STUDENT was viciously attacked during the early hours of New Year's Day.

Three student friends had returned home to Portishead for the holidays and were enjoying an evening out.

A STUDENT was viciously attacked during the early hours of New Year's Day.

Three student friends had returned home to Portishead for the holidays and were enjoying an evening out.

They were sitting on a wall in Worthingtons Walk eating food when three males launched an unprovoked attack on them.

The assault occasioning actual bodily harm happened at about 1.30am and has been described by police as 'a vicious assault in which one of the students sustained severe bruising and swelling to the face'.

The first man is described as white, about 17 years old, about 6ft tall, of athletic build with short dark hair. He spoke with a local accent.

The second man was about 17 years old, of athletic build, about 6ft tall and was wearing dark clothing.

The third man was also white and about 17 years old, of athletic build, was wearing dark clothing and had short dark hair.
