New houses are being built in Cheddar

PEOPLE who want to buy a house in the new development at Helliers Lane, Cheddar, must apply immediately, or risk losing out.

Those were the words of Sedgemoor District Council’s Jeff Savage, who said that it would be a shame if residents of the village missed out despite having purchasing priority over those outside Cheddar.

The £7million development, due to be completed in the spring, will see 77 new homes built by First Step Homes and the Guinness Trust.

A typical house in Cheddar which costs £150,000 would only cost £120,000 if bought from First Homes.

People who have left Cheddar because of the lack of affordable housing, but who want to return, will be given priority to buy one of the properties if they can prove a connection.

The scheme is running in conjunction with Sedgemoor District Council as applicants for reduced-price homes will be approved by the council.

Applications are open now.
