Village look for speed gun volunteers to enfore limits

POLICE in Cheddar have appealed to residents to come forward and help in a new scheme aimed at tackling speeding in the village.

Two or three volunteers are wanted to operate ‘radar guns’ on the roadside in an effort to catch speeding drivers.

They will be fully trained in how to use the guns.

If any driver is caught doing more than 24mph, they will be sent a letter.

Roads through the village are currently limited to 20mph, but councillors and residents have repeatedly complained that drivers coming through the village do not adhere to the limit.

Parish Council chairman Lyn Goodfellow said: “The reason we have had to do this is because we have had speeding in the village, particularly around schools.”
