Hundreds of pounds have been spent on replacing picnic tables in Wedmore which have been ‘destroyed’ in the past few months.

The council has spent about £400 buying one replacement table for the play area in Blackford Road after two tables were destroyed by vandals.

Rod Pring, Wedmore Parish Council clerk, said: “Over the past three months two wooden picnic tables with benches attached have been completely destroyed by vandals.

“They cost about £400 each to replace and maintain, and when the first one was wrecked a decision was made not to replace it.

“Now the second one has gone and users of the park are finding it very inconvenient that there is very little place to sit and eat and keep an eye on their children.”

Although the site is located away from residential areas, residents and park-goers are being urged to report any vandalism they witness to the parish council or police.
