Village to see major water main works

PUBLISHED: 15:00 10 October 2011

A £1.3MILLION project to replace a major water main in Axbridge is set to start this month.

The line, which carries water from Cheddar Reservoir to Barrow, has burst twice in the past and needs to be improved to reduce flood risks and make sure water supplies remain constant.

There will be no loss of water during the works, while no roads will be dug up or closed.

Spokesman for Bristol Water Jeremy Williams said: “It is important to stress that this is not the start of work on any reservoir. This is routine work needed to improve a main water line.

“We are hoping that any disruption will be kept to a minimum. Nothing bigger than a Transit Van will be in the town.”

Work on the main, which runs mainly through farm land, should be completed by January.

Archaeologists will be on-site during the works in case any major discoveries are made.
