URGENT repair work is due to start on a Somerset church next month.St Congar's Church in Badgworth needs £40,000 worth of repairs to make it safe.Members have been trying desperately to raise the cash to ensure the church stays open.After an appeal in the Somerset Mercury, a friends of the church group was set up to raise money for the building.Thanks to a couple of fund-raising events and some generous donations, repair work is due to start in August.Reverend Ken Brown said: "We're not out of the woods yet, but the signs are good. We are delighted. The first thing that needs to be done is the roof. We may have to do a little bit at a time as the money comes in."The interior of the 600-year-old building also needs redecorating and the church is appealing for people to come forward to help.A concert is being held in the church on July 27 to drum up more cash. Mean Time, former members of Trinity College of Music in London, will be performing a range of tunes on the recorder, harpsichord and baroque flute at 7.30pm.Tickets, priced £4-6, are still available from Louise Say on 01934 732971 or Brian Hopper on 732473.Complimentary wine and nibbles will be on offer during the interval and all the money raised will go to the church.
