THE popular Streetsafe bus will return to Weston town centre and give late-night revellers a safe haven again this summer

THE popular Streetsafe bus will return to Weston town centre and give late-night revellers a safe haven again this summer but volunteers are needed to staff it.The big orange bus will return to Big Lamp Corner on Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm-3am from July 20 to September 1.Organisers have managed to get together enough cash to fund the initiative for another season to offer a safe place for people who have ended up a little worse for wear on a night out.As in previous years first aid will be on hand and the bus will also have its own security but this time volunteers are needed to help run it.The brightly-coloured bus has become a place which revellers have been able to rely upon - whether they are injured, unwell or simply need a word of advice. The bus also helped the under-pressure doctors at the accident and emergency department at Weston General Hospital by treating people in the town centre and sending them home, rather than to the Grange Road hospital. But earlier this year there were fears it would not return because of a lack of cash to run it.Previously the project has been financed by grants from organisations such as the North Somerset Crime & Drugs Partnership, Weston Town Council and the Government, as well as private donations. This year there is enough money left over from past years to fund it for another year but volunteers are needed to keep the scheme running. Organisers are still looking for funding to keep it running in future years and over the Christmas period.Anyone over the age of 18 who wants to volunteer on a Friday or Saturday should call North Somerset Community Safety and Drug Action Team.
