Volunteers needed to help the blind

PUBLISHED: 19:00 07 October 2015

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help blind people go out and do their Christmas shopping in Weston-super-Mare this winter.

A volunteer recruitment drive is taking place at the weekend to find more people willing to take a blind or partially-sighted person out on a trip, round the shops or just for a walk over the holiday season.

New recruits will join an army of almost 5,000 people across the country who devote their free time to help the Royal National Institute of Blind People and its sister charity Action For Blind People.

Although volunteers are needed throughout the year, Christmas is a particularly busy period as plans are put in place to make the holiday season a happy one for visually-impaired people.

The event will be held at the Lauriston Hotel, one of just three designated Vision Hotels in the UK which specifically cater for blind and partially-sighted people.

The open day will be held at the hotel in Knightstone Road on Saturday at 2pm.

No experience is necessary as training is provided, and there will be refreshments provided at the open day.

If you would be willing to spare a day or two over the Christmas holidays, contact lauriston@visionhotels.co.uk or call 01934 620758.
