Volunteers to be signed up for library

VOLUNTEERS could be enlisted to prevent Winscombe Library having its opening hours reduced.
The potential changes by North Somerset Council, which would see five-and-a-half hours cut, were discussed at Winscombe and Sandford Parish Council’s meeting on Monday.
Councillor Gerald Lloyd said the council had three options – to accept the hour change, to resist it, or to look for volunteers to make up the shortfall of hours.
With Banwell Library set to close in September, the Woodborough Road facility, which would then be open for a total of 19 hours a week, may be used by more people from out of the parish.
Councillors agreed that they would try to find volunteers to fill the extra hours and report back at the next meeting.
* The council has also agreed to plant a new oak tree at the Winscombe recreation ground as part of celebrations to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond jubilee in June.
