People who take their dogs onto Burnham beach could be fined after a summer ban was introduced this week.
Dogs are now not allowed between Maddocks Slade and the yacht club and the ban will be in force until September 30.
During this time, anyone who takes a dog onto the beach can be issued with a fine of £75, or face prosecution.
A Sedgemoor District Council spokesman said: “Sedgemoor’s dog wardens undertake patrols at the beaches and will issue fixed penalty notices to those caught with dogs on the banned beaches.”
Dogs are also banned between the jetty and the pavilion all year round and the spokesman added that fines have already been handed out to people.
They added: “Dog wardens have issued 15 fixed penalty notices for dogs on the beach. To remind people of the dog bans, the dog wardens have sprayed chalk stencils at locations along the esplanade in addition to the normal signs.”
