PEOPLE across the district are being urged to watch out for crooks who pose as water board officials, only to then commit distraction burglaries.

The police have put out the appeal after several incidents across the force area in recent weeks.

The scammers knock on the doors of properties and say they are from ‘the water board’, before advising that the water needs to be turned off as a result of leaks.

The burglaries then take place when the resident is distracted.

People are being urged to check the identity of callers by calling the company they claim to be working for, using numbers from the telephone directory and not any offered by the person claiming to work for the company.

If in doubt, call the police on 101.

Bristol Water has also offered a £4,000 cash reward to the first person who gives information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone committing a crime while posing as a representative of the company.

The reward can be claimed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
