Eye witnesses have captured the moment a white van ‘went up like a torch’ in West Wick this afternoon (Friday).

The Anglian van was well alight near Plumtree Farm, in Summer Lane, when Avon and Somerset Constabulary and Avon Fire and Rescue were called at 4.30pm

Philip Osmond said he saw smoke round the corner from his work and went to investigate.

He added: “When I got to the gate you could see it was a large van but there were no number plates and it looked like it had just been dumped there.

“I went to car door and it just came off in my hand. I banged on the side of the van to see if anyone was in there before opening the back doors and smoke just came billowing out.

“It looked very peculiar, like it had just been dumped. There were no number plates on the back of the van and the back was filled with rubbish.

“We stepped back and called the fire brigade and then it went up like a torch.”

A police spokesman told the Mercury: “No-one was in the car and the fire service are dealing with the blaze.”
