THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for North Somerset as more rain could add to the havoc caused by flooding across the district.

Following 24 hours of extremely heavy rainfall in the district from Sunday to this morning (Mon), the organisation has issued a yellow alert – meaning be aware – for the South West for tonight, tomorrow (Tues) and Wednesday.

With many areas still flooded following the downpours and the River Yeo at a very high level, further rain could mean fresh travel problems tomorrow.

And heavy winds could add to problems in the district, with severe gale force winds predicted this evening.

A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue urged people to be careful when travelling in the area, saying: “Our advice to people is to think about whether you really need to make that journey and if you do please allow plenty of time for your journey, please drive safely and allow plenty of room around you if you do have to drive through a large patch of water please test your brakes after.”
