AN RNLI mainstay of more than 20 years held the ultimate charity fundraiser – his wedding.

Bob Sandy started out as a volunteer with the sea rescue charity in 1987 and decided to use his wedding to raise money for the Weston crew.

Bob and Loretta married at St Audries Park, West Quantoxhead – but instead of gifts, the couple asked for donations to Weston RNLI, based on Birnbeck Pier.

Now, the station has been handed a cheque for £400 from the guests’ efforts.

Bob was part of the station’s emergency response team for years before moving into a managerial role and finally retiring from the charity in August 2010.
