Wedmore Opera will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a performance of a 19th century Italian story.

The group will present Pietro Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana at 8pm from July 11-13 at the village hall in Cheddar Road.

The opera is based around a piazza, wine shop and church featuring characters who are all neighbours which creates a real sense of community.

A spokesman said: “These are ordinary people whose lives are turned upside down by impatience, jealousy, lust, betrayal, revenge and regret.

“Unexceptional lives are destroyed by the backlash of exceptional emotions.”

Alan Philps, John Pumphrey, Merryn Gamba, Francesca Bowkett and Claire Filer will star in the show.

Tickets, priced £21-24, are available from the village store in Cheddar Road or online.
