An event which saw hundreds of people enjoy more than 80 beers and ciders raised a total of £17,000 for 14 different local groups.

The Wedmore Real Ale Festival celebrated its 16th birthday in September.

Organisers have since hosted a presentation evening at The New Inn, in Combe Batch, to mark the work of the sponsors, volunteers and ale drinkers.

The largest sum of £3,000 went to Wedmore Playing Fields Management Committee.

Organiser Trevor Prideaux said: “This year was our best year to date. We are very proud to be able to give our largest total ever to local groups.”
