Pints and partying at village’s ale festival

Thousands of pints were poured in Wedmore during the village’s real ale festival at the weekend.

The three-day event, held at the village hall, enjoyed a record-breaking opening night with more than 5,000 pints served and 169 bottles of wine and prosecco sold.

On top of the selection of 65 ales and 20 ciders on offer, music from Paul Dockerty, Kindred and Bad Edukation rocked the venue.

Although the total amount raised has not yet been confirmed, organisers are hoping to top last year’s sum of £17,500 which was donated to good causes in the village.

The event’s raffle made more than £1,600, almost £4,700 was collected during the auction while the event’s beer bucket challenge raised a record £1,550.

Organiser Alan Page said: “Many thanks to all our brilliant sponsors, prize donators and volunteers for their continued support and for working hard to help us make the 2018 festival the best yet.”
