A Weston woman is running her first ever 5km race after losing more than five stone in weight.

Katie Rogers, aged 31, took up early morning walking to help her slim down, after feeling ‘disgusted’ with herself. She has lost five and a half stone since May, and will be taking on Weston Hospicecare’s Colour Run on April 19.

Katie, who has a nine-year-old daughter, said: “I weighed almost 21 stone before I started losing weight. I remember getting out of the bath one day, looking down at myself and just thinking, ‘I can’t live like this anymore’.

“I started getting up at 5am every morning and just going for walks. I’d add an extra road on to my routes and, before I knew it, I was walking four miles every day. It just got easier and easier.”

Katie said support from friends and family, and fellow dieters in online groups, kept her motivated.

She said: “They’ve helped me when I’ve fallen off the wagon. I couldn’t have done it alone.”

You can register for the Colour Run by clicking here. Registration closes tomorrow (Sunday).
